Who covers my solar battery warranties?

Posted in Getting battery storage

Just like solar panels, solar batteries come with warranties to guarantee the performance of the system over the long-term.

The average solar battery warranty is usually around 10 years and this is covered by the manufacturer of the battery itself. All batteries slowly become less efficient over time, so the warranty will guarantee the battery performs to a certain level (for example, 70%) of its original capacity.

You may also need a hybrid inverter (also known as a battery-ready inverter) or a battery charge controller installed with your solar battery if you don’t already have one. This should also come with it’s own warranty of around 5 to 10 years, covered by the manufacturer.

The installer who installs your solar battery system should also offer a warranty for their workmanship, which will be separate from the battery’s manufacturer’s warranty. So if a part of the system were to break down due to the installer’s workmanship (as opposed to something going wrong with the product itself) that would be covered under the installer’s warranty, not the manufacturer’s warranty.

The DC Power Co Solar Battery Package comes with an extended warranty

Our battery package comes with two separate warranties: one for the solar battery itself (this is a Sungrow 4.8kWh battery) and one for the hybrid inverter that also comes with the package (a Sungrow 5kW hybrid inverter).

The Sungrow 4.8kWh battery is covered under warranty by the manufacturer Sungrow for 10 years or 4000 battery cycles (the number of times the battery is charged and discharged), whichever comes first*. The battery is rated to perform at 70% of its original capacity at this point in time.

The Sungrow 5kW hybrid inverter also comes with a great 10 year all-inclusive parts and labour warranty.

You can view the full Sungrow warranty specifications on their website.
