Solar panels on roof

In great news for Victorians looking to get solar panels and batteries, the State Government has announced a boost to its Solar Homes Program as part of a $797 million Household Energy Savings Package.

The announcement includes more solar panel and battery rebates as well as changes to the battery rebate eligibility criteria. So, if eligible, you could get your hands on a solar panel rebate of up to $1850 or a battery rebate of up to $4174.

Solar panel rebates

Under the changes, solar panel rebates will be brought forward with 65,000 available this financial year and 140,000 over the next two years.

With more rebates available, now is a great time to act if you’ve been thinking about going solar. Check the eligibility criteria here and, when you’re ready to find out what solar system is right for you, get a free personalised system estimate for our Solar & Redback Battery Package

Solar battery rebates

For batteries, there will be 17,500 rebates available over three years with 5000 available in 2020-21.

Importantly, the previous postcode eligibility requirements (which limited access to the scheme to certain Victorian postcodes) will be lifted, meaning eligible households in any Victorian postcode will now be able to access a battery rebate of up to $4174.

This is particularly good news for many Victorian households that were previously excluded from the battery rebate scheme. With a rebate, the cost of a solar battery is dramatically reduced.

Bill relief, energy efficiency and rebates for small business

The Household Energy Savings Package also includes:

  • a one-off $250 rebate to help households doing it tough to pay their energy bills
  • efficient, lower-cost heating and cooling for 250,000 low-income households
  • 15,000 solar panel rebates for small businesses over the next three years.
