In SE QLD, we’re able to serve homes in the Energex network.

What elements are part of this system?
With this system you will get:
- The Redback Smart Hybrid inverter – it’s pre-wired for easy installation and includes a Hybrid Inverter and a Battery Enclosure which houses the selected battery size/s for your needs. The highly integrated solar and battery storage solution will fit seamlessly into your garage or outside your home.
- Pylontech battery – Rated #1 in the world for residential applications, the Pylontech lithium-ion solar batteries are neatly housed inside the Redback Technologies cabinet. Universally considered to be the safest battery chemistry, these innovative solutions are available in a 2.4kWh or 3.5kWh module – which we’ve combined to create our small, medium and large packages. The batteries come with a 10-year warranty.
- Tier 1 solar panels – high efficiency panels from Longi or Seraphim (or similar) that offer great value.
Other installation materials – cables and other parts necessary to ensure your system can be installed to the correct standard.
Is the Redback Smart Hybrid system right for me?
Because the sizing of this system as a whole is variable, the Redback Smart Hybrid system is a great choice for anyone looking for a solar and battery system. We will design the sizing of the system with you to ensure that you get exactly what you need from it.
Does the Redback Smart Hybrid system come with emergency blackout protection?
Yes, the Redback backup power feature allows near-instantaneous back-up power (10 milliseconds) to power lighting and key appliances in the event of a blackout. Enjoy peace of mind with an uninterrupted power supply, feel secure in your home and don’t lift a finger to do it – the changeover is automatic!
How long will the battery last in a blackout?
It depends how much energy you’re using in your home at the time and which appliances you have connected.
For example, if your battery is fully charged at the time of a blackout, you could run your lights, a fridge and a TV for around 10 hours, depending on how energy-hungry those appliances are.
On the other hand, it is possible (though less likely) that a blackout occurs after your battery has been emptied. To mitigate this, you have the option to set a ‘reserve capacity’ which would guarantee a certain level of charge to be available at all times (however this would limit the usable level of energy for daily cycles).
Do I need a new electricity meter?
You won’t need a new electricity meter for your home, however there will be a special meter added to your battery installation, and is included in the other materials that are provided for installation.
I have an older, small solar system already. Can I still get the Redback Smart Hybrid system?
If you are looking to upgrade both your solar panels and get a battery, then you can do this, provided you have enough space on your roof. You also have the choice to remove the old panels (if they are faulty or underperforming) and get a completely new setup.
If you are just looking to get a battery to add to your current solar system, we would suggest the Redback Smart Battery.

Will my Redback Smart Hybrid system be obsolete in a few years?
No. A solar battery system should last up to 10-15 years and solar panels up to 25. The reason you get a warranty is to ensure you’ll have support should anything go wrong early on in your system’s life.

What’s the payback I can expect from the Redback Smart Hybrid system?
Payback period and return-on-investment are good measures to use when assessing a solar system by itself, but when it comes to solar and a battery it becomes a bit more tricky.
The short story is that the payback will vary between states, your solar system, if you value back-up power and by how much, and what value you put on independence.
By combining your battery purchase with your solar panels purchase, your payback period is significantly reduced. Depending on the size of the system, we estimate payback from a purely financial perspective as part of your system estimate. Should I wait until the technology improves or the price comes down?
We believe the Redback Smart Hybrid system on offer from DC Power Co is one of the most affordable solutions available today. Battery prices will continue to come down over time, however we recommend getting a battery as soon as it makes sense for you financially. After all, the longer you wait, the more savings you’ll miss out on.
Does the battery need any ongoing maintenance or service?
The solar and battery system is very low maintenance and unless you’ve been notified about a fault, there’s nothing to worry about. As for the inverter, we recommend a check-up by a professional / installer every two years or so.

How do I know that Redback is a good company?
Look for reviews online (in particular recent ones from the last few years tend to be telling) and also look at things like share investments and partnerships. We did our own due diligence at DC Power Co and whilst we did find some older reviews that have pointed to issues with WiFi and monitoring, we are confident that the current generation system is one of the best available, and reviews have generally been very positive since its introduction.
