Our solar experts assessed over 20 solar batteries available in Australia and analysed the energy use of around 1500 of our electricity customers. They found that bigger is not necessarily better for the majority of solar homes (although big is usually more expensive).
Most people can maximise their solar energy use with a smaller battery than a Tesla Powerwall.
The goal is to get a battery that you can use all year round. To work out the right size for you, simply look at your solar export in winter.
We recommend the standard DC Power Co Solar Battery Package that includes the 4.8kWh Sungrow battery.
We recommend adding one battery to the DC Power Co Solar Battery Package, to bring your total storage capacity up to 9.6kWh.
We recommend adding two batteries to the DC Power Co Solar Battery Package, to bring your storage capacity up to 14.4kWh.
If you follow this guidance, you should have a really well-sized battery for your home that you can utilise properly all year round. The risk you run if you get a battery that’s too big is that you may not be able to fill it up in winter, because your solar system will generate less electricity at that time of year.
